A matter of conscience: GI resistance during the Vietnam war, photographs, 1968-1989 (bulk, 1989).

These twelve color portraits formed part of "A Matter of Conscience." Eleven of the prints of war protestors by William Short were taken in 1989, one was taken in 1968, another probably in the late 1960s or early 70s. There are some articles about the exhibit also available in the Archives.

In the late 1960s, William Short refused to return to combat, served two months in a stockade, and received a general discharge. In 1986, he and his wife, Willia Seidenberg, began interviewing war protesters and taking their pictures. In 1992, the portraits and some text from the interviews were shown at the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, Mass.
